S.A.L.V.E. (Support & Love via Education) International is a small UK and Ugandan partnership charity working hard to reduce the number of young people on the streets of Jinja, Uganda. They do this through counselling, care, family reunification and education. S.A.L.V.E. believes that all children should have the chance of a brighter future through education and, once a child has been successfully resettled to a loving family home and away from the dangers of the streets, S.A.L.V.E. supports them to join school or obtain vocational qualifications. S.A.L.V.E. also supports the caregivers of children who are on the streets through their Family Business Empowerment programme. This trains and mentors families to be able to provide for their children and reduces the risk of children returning to the street because of poverty at home.

Pro-Seed provides funding to S.A.LV.E. to offer small business training and start up opportunities to family members of children who we have resettled from the streets or older youth who have been resettled after living on the streets. Many children come to the street due to extreme poverty at home. By working with the family to help them increase their income, we aim to reduce the risk of these children (or their siblings) returning to the street.
Pro-seed also provides funding so that S.A.L.V.E. could offer vocational training opportunities to some of the older youth they work with who are too old to want to return to school, ensuring that they could create a future full of opportunities for themselves.

Mamma Anthony
said “S.A.L.V.E.’s support has enabled me to start my own small charcoal selling business. This has meant that I no longer have to worry about how I will feed my children and I have even been able to afford to pay school fees for the older ones and medical care when they are sick”.
Dan said “I can’t wait to be a fully qualified mechanic so that I can earn my own money and help
care for my Dad as he is getting older and my younger brother”. S.A.L.V.E. is making this possible by paying for me to do my training.
